On the prairies they know
that you have to use snow

In January on the Wood River
the laces got wet and then stiff
and could not be untied

Walked the wimpering long mile home
in one frozen skate and one warm boot
part of my foot and all my toes
numb and milky white

On the prairies they know

Too much warmth all at once
can bring the feeling rushing back
with more pain than you can stand

Audio Recordings / tagged Control, Heartbreak, Politics / October 31, 2022 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to
has become
It's my party and I'll lie if I want to

You would cry to if it happened to you
has become
You would lie to if I happened to be you

The trick is treating every treat as a trick
and keeping believing if believing you crave
dunking for apples that contain razor blades

It was my party and I'll cry if I want to

Hey there
you with the scars in your eyes
love ever made a fool of you

Songwriters will change
the scars to stars and ever to never

Sometimes that sort of thing helps
