Man Upright

Audio Recordings, News, Personal Growth / tagged Death, evolution, Hope, Kindness, War / March 18, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Carpet bombings in Ukraine
Concentration camps in China
Mass shooting du jour in the USA

Who would blame you for believing
that man is a natural miserable critter
and any decency the rare exception

If you want to spit out that cactus turd
try starting out each day with a search
for someone doing something kind
even if it has to be you

Limerick for Luhansk

Audio Recordings, Limerick, News / tagged Destruction, Fear, Grief, Russia, Solidarity, Ukraine, War / March 17, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Luhansk is a Ukrainian city currently occupied by Russia

There was a man a long year at war
where all about lay tattered and tore

He said to his wife
This is no kind of life

But let’s huddle together once more

Not Being in Ukraine

Audio Recordings, News, Poems about Poetry / tagged Atrocities, Death, Russia, Ukraine, War / March 16, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Not being in Ukraine
we have no right to write

Not being in Ukraine
our silence is a treachery

Ostap Slyvynsky is in Ukraine
he has a right to write of wrongs

It is two a.m. in Texas
I will not make them right by reading
will not wake anyone by not sleeping

In court there is a witness stand
made of dark wood dark things are said

If this were not so, no justice done
I will ask the steno to read them again

Ukrainian Poet Ostap Slyvynsky

The Jester

Audio Recordings, Poems about Poetry / tagged Courage, Honesty, Truth / March 15, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

for Them the World Poet

Only the Jester dares
to tell the truth to the king
to hold the blade as mirror
and thrust to the heart of the thing

And yet he has learned to retreat
as fast as a smile may fade
sit with his back to. the stone
and polish the blade
