Direct flights
to heaven are for angels only

Most of us will have to go
through hell or Dallas on the way

Your luggage will be lost in Denver
and moving sidewalks mostly don't

The whole hall is one long mall
meant to tempt you on your way
and the big board for listing gates
never states which is the pearly one

Dearest Mother;

Sorry to disturb you
in your well deserved bliss,
but here’s a short list
of things that I forgot to ask

And if it isn’t too much trouble
I’d like the answers as detailed as possible

It will be understandable
if you can’t conjure up a voice,
but one rap for yes, and two for no,
on a floating table won’t quite do

However, if you can look up Samuel Morse,
(who may well be bored and available),
he can give you a quick-study course
and I will dust off my old Boy Scout manual

I believe “talk to me” In Morse still becomes:

So, now that we’ve got the hang of it;

– What was the best day of your life
– What was your worst
– Your greatest triumph
– Your greatest disappointment
– What you are happiest that you did
– Saddest that you didn’t

Finally diving into Dante
skipping Inferno and Pergatorio
and straight through to Paradiso

Theory being that life will provide plenty
of coals to walk on with or without my help

Protestant at Catholic school
I've passed through the purgatory
of "No Questions" nuns teaching catechism

Heaven on the other hand
might still be a thing for earning
and worth the price of active search
with any maps and guides a blessing

There's Beatrice now, I'll follow her and let you know

Religions arising in hot countries
know what people know of hell on earth and add a few degrees

Religions born in colder climes
threaten eternity with never a thaw

My mother passes
from the womb of this life
to the new life of the next

It has been a difficult journey

My father is waiting for her
with two saddled horses

She is happy to see him
while still nervously scanning
for Jesus
who she thought would be there
to greet her

My father laughs

Plenty of time for that
in a place with no time

Let me help you up
onto this gentle roan
there’s a sunset I’d like you to see
