Can a photograph stop time

Do hours spent fishing
count or not count in length of life

Can east-west Concorde add
or harps in heaven be heard
without space between the notes

How long can a poem
write itself before it mentions it to me

There he was
dressed and spiffed and happy
to be going to his best friend’s party
when the call came in

He took off his coat
and loosed his shirt to let the red rise

God had sent him hail and sometimes rain
but it was all hail today

Dad in the hospital with family around
and a light in his fading eyes

Looking at Mom and saying
Isn't she beautiful

And we looked at her anew and she was

Beautiful as the bride in the old black and whites
forever in colour for him

John Gillespie Magee
slipped the surly bonds of earth
reached out and touched the face of God

Planes are bigger and faster now
I in my Aero Commander
commander of the air

Climbing at dusk have set the sun
on the lip of the world
and held it there

Have rode the Concorde
faster than the speed of sound
and faster than the earth goes round
that can lift it up where it when down

And there are times I'd best the lark
to try to hold or yet turn back
baby's smiles and love's first spark

I think Magee, the reverence would see
as we all fight the dying of the light
and try to touch the Sistine finger
a little longer before night

has been to start beyond that age

on the reins of his years

Remember when we were old
and used to spend all of our gold
on lotions and potions and medics galore
and every new fat at the health food store

Tar for the seams of a sinking ship
thinking we were near the end of the trip

But if time
is but a wrinkle in thought
just think of all that we've got

Today marks the 113th anniversary of the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic.
