Taps

Audio Recordings, Nature / tagged Destruction, Ice Storm, Mourning, Sadness, Trees / February 21, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com
In Austin
the trees after the freeze
are either dead or in mourning

There's a dead one now
with a still-clinging trumpet vine
playing taps

Just Blues

Audio Recordings, News, Relationships / tagged Covid19, Death, Despair, Friendship, Sadness / February 16, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com
“Nothing” the unjust man complained
“is just”(“or un-” the just rejoined
                                      e.e. cummings

Just coughing my way thru covid

Just reading the morning news
full of earthquakes and arrogance

Just noting that the cow
(meaning the price of beef)
has jumped over the moon
and taken the lettuce with it

Just missing to the bone
my bucket brigade of joy
who have kicked it

Just not pulling off this time
that old cure for the curse

Just not feeling any better
because others got it worse

On days dark and gray
when feeling little like God
one can feed sparrows

Uphill Downhill Blues

Uphill Downhill Blues

You play em because you got em
but when you play em you lose em
- Buddy Guy
Ain't saying you can't get the blues
for what you have done to give folks theirs
But them ain't the blues you can sing away

Got to kick at the darkness ‘til it bleeds daylight

- Bruce Cockburn: Lovers in a Dangerous Time Peter Pan got shed of his for a while
A girl sewed it back before he got away

Sewed it to his heel
so it could hide when he turned to see

And he never got to tie it to a chair
and sweat it like a cop till it copped a plea

EGGSHELLS NEED LOVE TOO

Audio Recordings, Relationships / tagged Grief, Loss, Sadness / October 12, 2003 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

EGGSHELLS NEED LOVE TOO

Lately I’ve been feeling so empty
and more fragile than ever before

Everything that I believed in is gone

Desperate I turn
my jagged edges to the world

Step on me
with sensitive feet you will be sorry
with lumbering boots, I will be crushed
