Just coughing my way thru covid

Just reading the morning news
full of earthquakes and arrogance

Just noting that the cow
(meaning the price of beef)
has jumped over the moon
and taken the lettuce with it

Just missing to the bone
my bucket brigade of joy
who have kicked it

Just not pulling off this time
that old cure for the curse

Just not feeling any better
because others got it worse

Winter
was winter
and all the world

When the only light was lamp
and the only power God
and the innocence of snow
lay soft on lad and land

When floating breath of kin and kine
was pure and white as well
and mankind too as far as we could tell

Antennae daily now
break down that door with news of war

Winter on the ranch
Kin = Family & Kine = Cattle

You can freeze to death
ten feet from your door
in a blizzard

Every child is beautiful

This is difficult to remember
when they have gathered
into swirling armies

Now you know what you can do
with all those big guns you bought
and were jonesing for a what for

Big trucks will be waiting
to haul them to the waiting planes

Bring gun belts, ammo, long clips too
and flags to wave of yellow and blue

It may not make the whole world safer
but people around here for pretty sure
