Ranch in Spring

Audio Recordings, Cattle, Cows, Farm, Nature, Ranch Life / tagged Birth, Horses, Seasons, Spring / March 21, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

The thing about spring is breath

Seeds long in the womb of the earth
open their chambered leaves and breathe

Calves helped from Hereford heifers
shudder along their wet red lengths and breathe

while colts unfold their too long limbs and breathe

Surprise to them in what degree, always awe in me

The Color of Spring

Audio Recordings, Nature, Personal Growth / tagged Growth, Seasons, Spring / March 20, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

The force that through the green fuse drives the flower - Dylan Thomas

The color of spring
is not but grass and budding leaves

The color of spring
is that which wakes in us to greet it

The color spring
is our answering or calling from within

The color of spring

is there with eyes either open or closed

Bam!

Audio Recordings, Nature / tagged Climate Change, Seasons, Spring / March 19, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Spring leapt over the boards
at 90 degrees per miles per hour
one bud one day a thousand the next

The global warming curve
is shaped like a hockey stick

But sometimes it skates backwards
and sometimes it just rags the puck

This spring - Slap Shot

Rest less

Audio Recordings / tagged Humor, Insomnia, Sleep / March 18, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Counted sheep
until all the sheep were asleep

Stayed awake till dawn
to protect them from the wolves

With thanks to Chance Keezel for late night inspiration

Springing Forward and Back

Audio Recordings, Nature, Nostalgia / tagged Flowers, memories, Scent, Seasons, Spring / March 17, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

The swing
is loud with trumpet vines

Mountain laurels
fill the air with covers
of 50’s and 60’s lilac songs
and it’s spring in mother’s garden

Ageism

Audio Recordings, Nature / tagged Aging, Perspective, Respect, Youth / March 16, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Under the ancient oak
young bluebonnets bloom

Neither judging the other
as too young to know or old to act

Spring Like No Other

Audio Recordings, Haiku, Nature / tagged awareness, Seasons / March 15, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Spring like no other
all those who noticed noticed
maybe that was why

White Bluebonnet Blessing

Audio Recordings, Personal Growth / tagged First Nations, Hope, Native Americans, Peace, Wisdom / March 14, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

A white buffalo calf is a big deal
and it is said White Buffalo Woman
brought the pipe of peace to the Sioux
Relating that legend Black Elk says...
This they tell,
and whether it happened so or not I do not know;
but if you think about it, you can see that it is true

In years to come they may speak of the spring
when the white bluebonnet
brought goodness back to Texas and the USA

Austin

Audio Recordings / tagged Hope, Suicide / March 13, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Patricia meets a young man in Austin

He tells her a story
about the time he decided to end it all

Walking home from buying the gun
he meets a woman on the street

She smiles at him as they pass

He throws the gun away

Mona Lisa

Audio Recordings, Poems about Poetry, Relationships / tagged Art & Artists, Inspiration, Muse / March 12, 2024 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

I'm so thankful you were there
like a Mona Lisa fair

To show me things I'd never see
and to model for my poetry

Which is not to compare
the artist or the style

But only to confirm again
the value of a smile
