In the dream
P&L threw a party
and what a party it was

Many a bottle bottomed
and many a button unbuttoned

While Buddha in a prone pose
watched unjudging from the mantle

More than under the bodhi tree
showing he could be attachment free

There's something about country music
that gets you feeling two inches taller
and all the gals are prettier up there too

I don't think it's just the boots
or Lone Star on tap at the Broken Spoke
that's got everybody in the place
feeling like they got there on Willie's bus

Success is a seven letter word

I have seen the lights
go on inthe eyes of the young
as lettrs and words go from fear to fun

And you play it like life, loose or tight

Small words
you can make on your own
bigger ones need
some help from your friends

Even the ones that pose as your foes

You need a ball is all

and a schoolhouse
small enough to throw it over

There is the calling out
and then the throwing over
and the catching and the tagging
and the laughing, always the laughing

There were rules, you could look them up
they were too small a part to mention here

The one room schoolhouse north of Courval, Saskatchewan
attended by the author’s father and the author as well
