Road Trip

Relationships, Travel / July 12, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

There is a stretch
in the long loping hills of Montana
where the laws of speed and time are not enforced

Where over every hill there’s another hill
that far to the bottom
and that far up the other side

A-sail, a-sail on an earth-rocked ship
two thousand feet above an ancient sea

Wheels endlessly humming
to the radio’s timeless tunes

Suspended forever midway
between those you’re running to
and those you’re running from

The thing about being alone
is finding someone to lie to
about how good it feels

Angels in Texas

Uncategorized / July 10, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Some may die
in a state of grace
and some in a state of Texas

Be borne aloft
on the white wings of angels

Or carried as carrion
on the black wings of buzzards

And arrive at the same God safe

Sunsets Ends

Uncategorized / July 9, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Sunsets red as Hades forge
stoked by our church-guilt fear

Sunsets rayed like the holy crown
a promise in awe of a better home

Sunsets dance of the seven veils
luring us sweet to a waiting bed

Middle Age

Being as we are
centers of the universe
it is surely now

Rope Burns

Uncategorized / July 7, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

I want to be able to bring home to you

Not only what I caught today
but the rope burns from
the ones that got away

Not only the buckles for the ones
that I stayed on for the eight
but the taste of the dirt
and other stuff I ate

Not only the meat from that old bear
but all the claw marks he left there

That you’re the one I want to kiss them well
also shows the love that I can’t tell

The Snakes Were Easy

Uncategorized / July 6, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

When God in his youth
made mud toys in play

He never thought of the day
as few of us do
when his beard would be gray

A Cowpoke Watches Polo

Audio Recordings, Ranch Life / July 5, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Look at them go
backin and forthin and bumpin and turnin
Saddle, nothin but a cow pie with stirrups
Them boys can ride

Happy Birthday USA

Declaration of pure poetry

Long may that song be sung

Reincarnation by Loon

Nature / July 3, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Now there’s a sound
you could take anywhere
and remember
when you returned
