Dissecting the Frog of War

String Too Short To Save / tagged War / October 25, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

and when did the buffalo driven off the cliff become the lemming leaping as if the decision was his own

Barn – Sunshine – Thoughts

Farm, Ranch Life / October 24, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

The mote and the beam
are both in my eye

Witness to sunlight’s break and enter
through errors in dry boards

I have sneezed
and changed a world

Mustard

Poems about Poetry, Uncategorized / October 23, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Hockey Players who get cramps eat yellow mustard made by Heinz I have some poems in lingering spasm on the bench though their teeth be yellow they're going in

Poet All Stars

Audio Recordings, Poems about Poetry / tagged Art, Baseball / October 22, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

The odds are overwhelming

Every time we play the game
we find ourselves on a level field
with the all time all world all star team

Homer, Whitman, Rumi and Omar Khayyam
Wordsworth, Shakespeare (or whoever wrote his stuff)

It’s like always batting against Nolan Ryan on his best day
Like trying to strike out Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams
Babe Ruth (without a hangover) and Reggie Jackson in October

Great poets never tire or retire, they just die
and still play with their best stuff

Soccer players today don’t have to play Pelé every day
But with translations and free agents
we write up against Neruda, Viello and Paz

Or heads up against Leo Tolstoy and Anna Ackmanova
with an East German judge

But we play

First day of the World Series today!

Modern Medicine it Ain’t

Cattle, Cows, Farm, Ranch Life / October 21, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

10 cc’s of Carnation milk

Inject it just beneath the skin
pink eye cured in a Hereford calf

Old wives remedies you say
maybe that’s how they got that way

The Sheep of Holland

Audio Recordings, Farm, Ranch Life, Travel / tagged Disease / October 20, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Sheep soft on the soft wet grass
between our house and the old windmill

Sheep running in the distance
a long row of cotton candy
pulled by an invisible string

March lambs gambolling
on the sides and tops of dikes

The black cloud of hoof and mouth
gathering over England
strikes as we leave

Watching the news in Atlanta
my farmer fear pulls me back

Memory revises

I stand in the bare fields
look at the bare dikes

Taste the burning wool

The Farmer’s Daughter

Farm, Ranch Life / tagged Children / October 19, 2019 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

That little skipping step
the white cotton dress
the pebbles rolling
down the path

The sunflowers turning
to watch her as she passes
