Tomorrow

Audio Recordings / tagged Dance, Fairy Tales, Magic, Whimsy / April 23, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Somewhere
perhaps very near
the fairies are dancing tonight

If you put out a little food
they will mend your shoes
and tomorrow you can join them

Leave Some Fairies in the Fairy Tales

Audio Recordings, Relationships / April 22, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

It takes the romance
out of the Cinderella story to say
the prince booted her like a car on a curb

and is dropping a shoe entrapment too

As for the Sprats, wife and Jack
can we quit all fad-diet benefits chat
They were happy, let's leave it like that

A boot is a large, heavy metal device that clamps onto one of the wheels of a vehicle with the intent of preventing the vehicle from driving away

In the caves there are paintings
thirty thousand years old
and the Sistine Chapel has been
around for a while

In Tibet and Arizona
they paint with colored sand
a Cordon Bleu feast, beautiful
for a moment then brushed away

For those who would judge
one as better than the other
I offer a poem or a psalm
in a long-remembered book

Reading it is in column one
hearing it in column two

Or how about a whispered
I love you in the ear
is it gone ... or is it here

Refrigerator

Audio Recordings, Family, Haiku / tagged Art, Food, Love / April 20, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

Milk eggs cheese and meat
on the door the children's art
bodies and souls fed

Hope Flowers

Audio Recordings, Travel / tagged Education, Israel, Palestine, War / April 19, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

In Bethlehem a refugee
with sadness but no hate decreed
Another generation is what we need

And a school where the children
of the refugees of holocausts
and refugees of refugees
can learn together
learn to look inward f irst

This is a most beautiful and special place
with such regard for dignity and respect
so successful in their message of love
so f illed with fairness to each side

That Arafat’s Palestinians burn their busses
and Israelis torture teachers and riddle walls

While Caterpillars sent from across the sea
creep closer each day in their wonderful
mindless mechanical way with leveling intent

To be met with Gandhi smiles
and your help, if you give it

World hard and harder
walls and paths build
stone by stone
in the cracks - flowers

Fear piled on pain
stone paths merge
with rock wall rise
in the cracks - flowers

Hard days and hard nights
path of pain joins wall of fear
in the cracks - flowers

Perspective

Audio Recordings, Remembering, Travel / tagged Holocaust, Homeland, Israel, Survival / April 17, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

In Israel this year
the number of Jews will reach six million

There are other Jews in other lands
but it is only here that you can stand

Put out your hands
palms up and softly cupped

Weigh each as equal
weigh each and say

“This many”

A poem written for Holocaust Remembrance Day in 2012

Not there's a sound
you could take anywhere
and remember
when you returned

The Joy of the Loon

Audio Recordings, Haiku, Nature / tagged Birds / April 14, 2023 / by neil_2015_wordpress@neilmeili.com

The joy of the loon
is in the sadness of his song
